DeSantis said that his administration “flatly rejects the inclusion of gender ideology” in schools. In fact, the governor said, “I just signed legislation eliminating the use of pronouns in the school.” He then shared how the legislation keeps biological men from competing in women sports and medical professionals from performing gender reassignment surgeries on minor. The penalties for medical professionals violating the new legislation are forfeiture of their medical licenses and possible jail time.
“These problems that we see in education grow out of what I call the ‘Woke Mind Virus,’” DeSantis said, further characterizing the problem as “Cultural Marxism” and an “attack on merit and achievement.” Ultimately, he said, “‘woke’ represents a war on the truth. Well, since ‘woke’ represents a war on the truth, we in Florida are waging a war on ‘woke!’”
American decline is not impossible to stop, DeSantis said. “It is a choice. A great American comeback is attainable, and freedom sure is worth fighting for.”
DeSantis, who is Catholic, concluded his speech by encouraging everybody “to get ready, put on the full armor of God, stand up for your faith, and don’t ever, ever back down.”
