In a separate video, the TikTok influencer revealed a surprising connection between Fairpark Baptist Church and “Shiny Happy People,” the latter of which was Amazon’s most successful docuseries debut to date. The show explores the influence of the Institute in Basic Life Principles (IBLP), founded by Bill Gothard, on the Duggar family and concludes that IBLP perpetuates spiritual and sexual abuse. A number of abuse survivors share their stories in the series.
The Duggars rose to fame after being featured on TLC’s “19 Kids and Counting.” Mike Keller is the father of Anna Duggar, wife of Josh Duggar, who is currently serving over 12 years in prison for receiving child sex abuse materials (CSAM). Anna’s sister, Priscilla, is married to David Waller, Fairpark’s pastor.
One of the survivors who shared her story in “Shiny Happy People” is Emily Elizabeth Anderson. In the docuseries, Anderson described how Bill Gothard groomed and sexually abused her and mentioned that Gothard had a male assistant who was present for some her interactions with Gothard.
“Since the release of the documentary a few people have asked me who the male assistant was who watched Gothard groom me late at night in his office, so I’d like to go ahead and go on record with that individual’s identity,” Anderson said in a June 29 Facebook post. “The man is David Waller. David and his now wife Priscilla (yes, Anna Duggar’s sister), were both working at IBLP HQ when I was there in 2011.”
“Over the span of two weeks,” said Anderson, “David watched closely as Gothard sexually groomed me (which included being present for late night sessions and inappropriate questioning as to my sexual and romantic relationship history), as Gothard persuaded me to come up to HQ, and then he assisted Gothard in crafting manipulative ways to coerce me into staying at HQ, against me and my mother’s wishes.”
Anderson said that Waller was brought on as director of the Advanced Training Institute (ATI) after Gothard left his position as president of IBLP (Gothard left following allegations of sexual harassment). She does not believe that Waller has become more adept at combating abuse in the years since she knew him.
“Just last year he penned a letter to the judge who was sentencing Josh Duggar for possession of CSAM and he asked the judge for leniency,” Anderson said. Waller’s letter, which features Fairpark’s letterhead, is included on page 9 of the following document.
