Justin Peters, who warned that “Bethel is a cult,” shared a lengthy reply to Shane & Shane’s concert post. He wrote to the duo, “You are compromising truth and compromising the Gospel by joining up with the Bethel cult.” Adding that he’s “really, really disappointed to see this,” Peters noted, “God is not honored and He will not bless this. You may get approval of the world, but it will come at the expense of losing His.”
Some people on social media indicated they are waiting to hear how Shane & Shane react to all the displeasure. “Let’s be sure to pray and pay close attention to how Shane & Shane respond to this outcry from its theologically sound fanbase,” read one comment.
Scarlett Campbell, director of live worship at The Worship Initiative, told ChurchLeaders that Shane & Shane “are simply leading at an Air1 event.” She directed fans to the Air1 website to learn more about what’s being billed as “an epic night of praise.”
