Byard noted that the 24-year-old Farley is no stranger to adversity, having lost his mother to cancer in 2018.
“Just very tragic and, you know, as a team and as a brother, all we can do and all I can do is try to be there for him,” Byard continued. “It’s going to be tough. I mean, like I said, it’s unimaginable, tragic.”
Byard lost his own mother during last year’s NFL preseason training. Recounting the experience, Byard expressed that he was in “a dark place” for some time after her death.
“But like I said, all you can really do and the only advice I can give to anybody who’s going through something like that is to lean into your faith,” Byard said. “Know that God don’t make any mistakes. As tough as it sounds and as tough as it can be, you just have to lean into that.”

In 2021, Farley told ESPN that the loss of his mother to cancer and the battle that preceded her death brought him closer to God.
“I can say that was the start of me maturing in my faith,” Farley said. “I’ve always been built up in the Scriptures and known what you should and shouldn’t do. It wasn’t as intimate or as pure of a relationship as it could have been.”
“When I saw my mother go through that and believe that she could be healed and then I saw it come back and kill her, it hurt my faith in the beginning,” Farley continued. “But I believe you have to serve the Lord when it’s good and bad. I made the decision that I was going to trust God. I would be lost without him.”
Farley, who has battled injuries early in his career, will begin the NFL season on the Titans’ PUP (physically unable to perform) list.
