MercyMe: The Journey
After leading worship on a trip to Europe, Bart Millard and James Phillip Bryson both felt a call to a life in full-time music. The two then met guitarist Michael John Scheuchzer, and all three moved to Oklahoma.
The Christian group has produced nearly two dozen albums since its formation in 1994 in Oklahoma. The band came together to release six albums before INO Records offered them a record deal in 2001.
It was then that MercyMe gained worldwide recognition with its hit, “I Can Only Imagine.” The song carries listeners through a series of wonderings about what heaven will be like. The lyrics read in part, “Surrounded by your glory / What will my heart feel? / Will I dance for You Jesus / Or in awe of you be still?”
Since that explosive entrance into music stardom, MercyMe released several more albums, with six being certified gold. And the band has celebrated numerous consecutive top five singles on the Billboard Christian Songs chart.
With a collection of awards, nominations, and chart-topping releases, MercyMe continues to write and produce music to give praise to God and encourage those on the Christian journey.
