Burns, a backer since the early days of President Donald Trump’s 2016 campaign, said in an interview that “it’s important that religious leaders reach out to the president.” Burns contended that Trump’s struggles are partly connected to his Christian faith, adding that “Satan wants to remove a vessel that God has installed to again be a blessing to the religious community.” (AP Photo/Mark J. Pastor Mark Burns—A Longtime Supporter of Former President Donald Trump

TIME magazine called Burns “Trump’s top pastor.” Burns spoke at the 2016 Republican National Convention and continues to support the former president in his re-election campaign. While many religious supporters of Trump’s first campaign and term seem to be silent or absent from his attempts at re-election, TIME said Burns “will continue to preach his twin messages of Jesus and Trump both in his church television ministry and on the campaign trail.”

Burns has said, “I actually feel appointed for such a time, I feel just like Esther did. When Mordecai came to her and said, you need to have your ear to the King, you need to go out and speak to the King, you have access, so you have to help protect our people.”

Burns told TIME, “For someone like Donald Trump to say, ‘Hey, your heart is right, your spirit is right, you’re my real friend, come follow me,’ that speaks volumes.” Trump’s endorsement of Burns came after Burns admitted in 2016 that he “overstated several details of my biography because I was worried I wouldn’t be taken seriously as a new pastor.”

At a ReAwaken American event in October, Burns continued his public support of Trump. After making note of his personal access to the former president, Burns affirmed his support, saying, “Donald Trump is ready to come back, but he needs to make sure he’s got warriors ready to stand with him. We don’t care about those indictments. We don’t care about those arrests.”

Burns concluded his speech by saying, “I got one thing to say, we are just about to launch, in 2024, a brand new Christian military academy called Burns Christian Military Academy to save our children from the evil public school systems.”

“Let’s be clear about something. There is no war on the gay community, we want them saved,” Burns posted to Facebook. “God created a man and from man he created woman, just keep their indoctrination out of our public school systems. #GodFirst #Trump2024 #ReawakeningTour
