“Some may know, but last night both of my parents were involved in a fire accident in their backyard. What started as an attempt to burn some old files quickly got out of hand,” Guercia wrote. “Neighbors called 911 and my dad was taken via helicopter to a burn center in DC, my mom following in an ambulance.”

“My mom suffered some 2nd degree burns on her hands but my dad took the brunt of it. The doctors have said he has 3rd degree burns on about 65% of his body,” she continued. “He is currently in ICU and the recovery road ahead is going to be long. My mom is home and doing well.”

Guercia went on to express that her parents had been in a “transition period for the past few months as my dad has sought out wisdom for his next phase of ministry.” Now, their exploration of those next steps has been put on hold.

“We feel as if we don’t know which way is up right now,” Guercia said.

Guercia went on to ask for prayer for her father as he undergoes the first of what will be several medical procedures. “He is expected to get sick throughout this process as risk of infection is high,” she explained. “Pray that God would bring healing to his body, wisdom to the doctors as they make decisions, and steadfastness for the nurses who are tirelessly monitoring and taking care of him.”

Guercia also asked for prayer regarding her parents’ finances, as the couple is in the midst of job transitions and medical coverage beyond next month is an open question.

A Meal Train has been established for the family, and donations to support them can be made there.

“Our God is sovereign over this and it has not taken him by surprise,” Guercia wrote. “We trust that he will guide us through each step of the process.”
