This isn’t the first time Purdy has turned to Scripture. “It’s what I start off with, actually, every single day,” he said. The athlete has a daily practice of starting off “with some solitude.” Then, once he’s grounded, he can go about his rigorous day of training.

In a previous interview, Purdy expressed how sincere his faith is and has been. “I’m living to be set apart,” he told Sports Spectrum. “It’s easy to, yes, repent of your sins and be about Jesus…to know, ‘I can’t keep doing this sin. You know, I’ve acknowledged it; I gotta move on.’”

“But to be on fire for the Lord and walk with him,” he said, “I think, right now, man, I’m all about, ‘Hey, I’m living set apart from the world. People can think this about me or whatever. That’s fine.”

Purdy continued, “The bottom line for me is that my identity is in Jesus. I get that. And I’m gonna roll with that.”

Purdy shared that he doesn’t pray for a win. In fact, during a game, a common prayer for the successful quarterback goes something like this, “Holy Spirit, take over and lead me here in this moment.” Purdy continued to share how he prays, adding, “Allow me to think clearly, allow me to go through my reads.”

He prays to “just have an even-keeled state of mind” that he receives from the Holy Spirit.

Brock Purdy’s Dad ‘Prays His Guts Out’ Every Time His Son Plays Football

Earlier in his life, Shawn Purdy, Brock’s dad, pitched eight seasons in minor league baseball for the Kansas City Royals, Oakland Athletics, and then-California Angels. The Purdy family has enjoyed an active lifestyle while cheering on their kids in various sports.

Brock was following in his father’s footsteps as a baseball player in childhood and through part of his high school career. Then, Brock turned solely to the game of football.

The Sports Spectrum reporter told Brock that he spoke with Shawn, who said that “he prays his guts out when he watches you play.”

With a smile on his face, Brock Purdy, who considers himself a “faith-based guy,” responded about prayer and how he prays throughout each game. “It’s not, ‘God, can we win here? Can we do something great here?'” Brock said. “It’s more just to have that peace. That steadfastness in all the chaos.”
