Associate Pastor at Chuck Swindoll’s Stonebriar Community Church Fired for ‘Moral Failure’

In June, Dr. Tony Evans of Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship in Dallas stepped away from his pastoral responsibilities after confessing to “sin” that he committed “a number of years ago.” No further details were provided. Evans is expected to return to the pulpit at some point.

Roughly a week later, Robert Morris of Gateway Church in Dallas-Fort Worth resigned in disgrace after abuse survivor Cindy Clemishire came forward to allege that he sexually abused her in the 1980s, beginning when she was just 12 years old. 

Morris had previously been open about the fact that he was “involved in inappropriate sexual behavior with a young lady” in his 20s and had undergone a church discipline and restoration process.

The leadership of Gateway Church and other associates of Morris have denied knowing that he allegedly abused a child.
