Over the years, Lawson has frequently filled in for John MacArthur at Grace Community Church (GCC) when MacArthur has been unable to preach. In fact, Lawson preached at GCC on July 14 and was the one who informed the congregation that MacArthur needed to undergo a medical procedure. The procedure resulted in MacArthur receiving a new aortic valve.
