While speaking to seminarians in mid-August, MacArthur said he lacked “the strength to do a couple of Sunday morning sermons.” The current weak state of his voice was likely due to not preaching for a while, he told students. “It’s a muscle that needs to be used,” said the pastor. “So preach as often as you can.”

Being tired from the recent procedure was “all very new to me,” MacArthur admitted. But he said he’d been “literally overwhelmed with grace upon grace, incalculable grace.”
MacArthur, who recently celebrated his 55th pastoral anniversary at GCC, said, “The predominant dream that I had, beyond just preaching and shepherding, was to be able to raise up a generation of godly men, and the Lord’s continued to let us do that.”
