Initial Reports of the Fabricated Incident Were Laced With Racial Undertones and Calls for Prayer—Sheriff’s Office Asks Public To Share the Truth
Stories and posts of the fake incident have circled social media platforms in the last few days. Unfortunately, seeing such incidents can cause a significant amount of unrest among viewers.
“It really, it affects the community as much as anything,” Burnet County Sheriff Calvin Boyd said. “There’s enough going on in the world—we don’t have to have people making things up.”
One social media post that does not yet include an update with the truth came from St. Louis. “Security at Epicenter Church in Burnet, TX stopped two dark skinned men wearing turbans from entering the church with rifles,” posted Dan Jewell of St. Louis, before he learned of the fabrication. “Remember This When You Vote.”
Burnet County Sheriff Boyd asked the public to “disseminate” the revelation that the incident was fabricated “broadly by liking, sharing, re-posting, and freely discussing it.”
“The rumors and speculation surrounding this falsehood can only be counteracted by the widespread announcement of the truth,” said the Burnet County Sheriff’s Office.
