Oren gets to know Yeshua, and the carpenter encourages him to pursue a woman Oren is interested in. The fighter respects and admires Yeshua, who heals Oren at one point, but Oren is unaware of Yeshua’s true calling. “You are aware of his miracles?” a man asks Oren at one point. “He’s a carpenter,” Oren replies. “Son of a carpenter.”
“No, look further,” says the man.
Later, Oren asks Yeshua, “Why help me? I’m nobody.”
“You’re somebody to me,” Yeshua answers.
“I fell in love with the premise right away, asking the question so many of us have asked: ‘What was Jesus’ life like in the years leading up to his ministry?’” said Batty. “We spent a lot of time imagining him during those early adult years before his recorded ministry officially began.”
The soundtrack for “The Carpenter” includes tracks by Godsmack, Mötley Crüe, and Drowning Pool, with the press release suggesting their purpose is to contrast Oren’s experience as a fighter with Oren’s peaceful interactions with Yeshua.
“It became clear that we should depict Jesus as a caring, good-humored, likable and wise ‘older brother,’” Batty said. “Add in the action, soundtrack and the Krebs family’s inspired vision, and you have a film unlike anything I’ve ever had the joy of working on before.”
