“I have to appeal to something better than me, and that, to me, is a miracle,” Gibson said.

At the conclusion of the discussion, Rogan asked, “This is a profound story. When you put something like that together, how do you choose who’s going to be the next Jesus?”

Referencing Jim Caviezel, the actor that portrayed Jesus in “The Passion of the Christ,” Gibson replied, “You use him again.” The director then shared that he is planning to use some CGI. “It’s supposed to be three days later,” he said, “but he got 20 years older, and I think I’ll have to use a few techniques.”

Gibson described the film’s script as “an acid trip…I’ve never read anything like it.”

“There’s some crazy stuff,” he said. “I think in order to really tell the story properly, you have to start with the fall of the angels, which is, you’re in another place, you’re in another realm. You know, you need to go to hell, you need to go to Sheol.”

“How do you depict that?” Rogan asked.

“This is a good question,” Gibson responded. “I think I have ideas about how to do that…I’ve been thinking about it for a long time.” However, Gibson admitted, “It’s not going to be easy, and it’s going to require a lot of planning, and I’m not wholly sure I can pull it off, to tell you the truth. It’s really, super ambitious, but I’ll take a crack at it, because that’s what you got to do.”

“So I think I can get it, but it’s not about me. It’s about something else,” Gibson added.

“Well, if anybody can do it,” Rogan told Gibson, “you can do it.”
