The site expresses dismay that companies Black people have supported for years would “betray our long standing relationship.”
“The highest insult comes from [Target] who pledged spending over 2 billion with black owned business [sic] by the end of 2025,” the site says. “To stop the program at the start of the year is betrayal.”
It is not clear from Target’s statement that it is ending or that it is committed to fulfilling its pledge to give Black-owned businesses $2 billion dollars by the end of this year.
The website makes the following demands for Target to fulfill in order to avoid the consequences of the boycott:
1. Honor the 2 billion dollar pledge to the black business community through products, services, and black media buys
2. Deposit 250 million amongst any of our 23 black banks
3. Completely restoring the franchise commitment to DEI
4. Pipeline community centers at 10 HBCU to teach retail business at every level
“What we learned from the Montgomery Bus Boycott is racist America doesn’t respond to speeches,” Pastor Jamal Bryant said. “They respond to dollars…And if they start losing $29 million a day for 40 days, we will break the back of the system.”
Bryant also urged his congregants to sell all of their Target stock. “I want the stock to go down,” he said, “because we are standing in righteous indignation against racism and sexism in this nation.”
