To those who fear that Black-owned businesses might be harmed by people abandoning Target, Bryant said that, thanks to a partnership with the National Black Chamber of Commerce, when people sign the form on the Target boycott website, they will receive “a digital directory of 300,000 Black businesses in America where you can do your business instead of going to Target.”
Moreover, Bryant said that the church is intentionally not starting the Target boycott for another 30 days in order to give Black business owners time to leave the company. “I want you to have enough time to shift all of your product digitally so that the community will be able to support you,” Bryant said. “Your business will not fail and your family will not suffer.” The 30-day window also gives Black vendors time to join the National Black Chamber of Commerce.
To anyone who would accuse him of not preaching the gospel during his sermon, Bryant said, “I’m preaching the gospel. Jesus kicked over tables and used the whip to drive people out when they were out of order in handling God’s people.”
