Technology Comes From God’s Creation, MacArthur Explains: ‘We’re Just Extracting It’

The 85-year-old pastor shared that although his body is failing, he isn’t in “any pain” and doesn’t “have any sickness.”

“Every one of those [health] issues has been remedied by technology. You can complain against technology,” MacArthur said.

He continued:

But you have to understand that there’s another side to technology. God built that technology into his creation. I think people don’t understand—you don’t create technology. You extract technology out of God’s creation. And the mark of his sovereignty is all over that. Whatever AI may become, it’s incredible what possibilities there are. That ability to do that was built into creation. And here we are at this point in living in the world, when we’re still discovering what’s in the creation, embedded deep in the creation. So I am a demonstration of the creation, just as every being is, but there’s so much you don’t understand about it until you see that all technology, all innovation, all engineering, all development, construction of anything, development of anything that has value is buried in the creation and we’re just extracting it.

MacArthur: ‘I Don’t Think God Is Through With Me Yet’

“I accept this from him as a gift,” MacArthur said, speaking of the technology being used to keep him alive. “I’m trying to make the most of it, make the best use of it. In the process of keeping my body in the place where it could serve me, I’ve had to go through a lot of procedures that’s taken me down pretty low, down to seven weeks in the hospital.”

MacArthur said that he is facing months of rehab to regain the strength he lost in the hospital, adding, “I’m willing to do that because I don’t think God is through with me yet.”

MacArthur Tells the Shepherds Conference That He’s on His ‘Last Lap’

In a video message he recorded for GCC’s Shepherds Conference earlier this month, MacArthur, who had hoped to preach at the conference, said, “I had the message on my heart, and I didn’t want to lose the opportunity to give it to you, so we printed it up in a booklet.”

I realize I’m on the last lap. That takes on a new meaning when you know you’re on the short end of the candle,” MacArthur said. “I am all thanks and praise to God for everything he’s allowed me to be a part of and everything he’s accomplished by his Word in these years of ministry.”

MacArthur Hopes To Return to the Studio Soon

Last week, Phil Johnson, executive director of Grace to You (GTY) and an elder at GCC, posted on X that MacArthur is making plans to return to Grace to You studios soon.

“I spent another hour with John MacArthur again this morning,” Johnson said. “Though he obviously is nowhere near full strength, I think he’s improving, albeit slowly. He’s making plans to come and record for GTY in the studio next week. He’s motivated and galvanized.”

Johnson shared that he hopes MacArthur’s “final lap” will be “at least a decade long.”
