Dropping Dollar-Value Impacting Missions

11/19/10

The Christian Post reported today that the “freefalling” value of the American dollar is causing no small difficulty for American missionaries in foreign countries attempting to stretch their financial support. Some missionaries living overseas are finding that their support they raised isn’t sufficient. Ted Eisler, an executive at a large evangelical missions movement, was quoted as saying, “Missionaries who were already suffering because of the economy at large are getting kind of a double whammy, if you will, a two-stroke hit on the funding that they have available to them…we are beginning to see more and more struggle, particularly among people who are raising funds to go out for the first time.” The International Missions Board, for example, has cut its missions team by nearly 600 over the past two years.
