Chan to Liberty Students: Stay Culturally Relevant

Francis Chan spoke at a convocation at Liberty University where he urged students to engage the world without compromising their faith. As reported by Charisma News, Chan said many people think Christians are “weird” and “socially awkward” because they don’t understand the latest trends or take the time to build the relationships with people that are required when making disciples. “I want to look like a guy that walked out of the Bible, not one who walked out of the Bible belt,” he told listeners.

Chan also described his own experience as a student, saying he “did a lot of Christian things but didn’t have the intimacy with God” that he enjoys today. Chan encouraged students to take the Apostle Paul as an example in 1 Corinthians 9:19-23 and make sure they could “look someone in the eye and tell them about what’s most important to us.”
