Choose Joy

Today we visited one of my favorite places in Kolkata. It’s the Missionaries of Charity where Mother Teresa lived and worked.

It’s always so inspiring and humbling to see the legacy this woman left behind. If you spend any time at all in Kolkata you quickly become overwhelmed with the vast hopelessness. It’s hard to imagine working in the midst of these dark circumstances daily and keeping a joyful attitude as she did.

Seeing where she worked and who she served daily brings a whole new meaning to this Mother Teresa quote:

“One filled with joy preaches without preaching.”

So true, isn’t it? Don’t people who choose joy just stand out in the midst of the darkness?

Maybe this is why Psalms 118:24 says,“ This is the day the LORD has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it.” (You’re wanting to sing the song right now, aren’t you)? ?

This is the day.

Not yesterday because it’s gone.
Not tomorrow because there is no guarantee.

Choose joy today.

Not because it’s going to be a perfect day because it certainly isn’t.
Not because everything is going to go your way because it won’t.

Choose joy today because today is all you’ve got.

Choose joy today because there’s a watching world that will be drawn to our Creator when you do.
