For those of you that may not know, I travel a lot; which means I find myself in many different airports and airplanes. This affords me the opportunity to meet and interact with lots of different people. I constantly interact with everyone from TSA security, to the person traveling beside me to the various flight attendants working my flights.
My favorite airline is Southwest Airlines, I’m glad I can still say that even after I went through a couple week period of some unusual challenges. Customer Relations did a great job of taking care of me during those challenges. I fly so much with the “Luv Airline,” that I’m companion fare status, which means my companion flies with me for free. (Gotta luv free) I luv the way Southwest operates and the fact that the flight attendants and crew aren’t so uptight. The fact that they are one of the only major airlines turning a profit is a nice bonus and lets me know their business model works.
Every once in awhile I will get one of those flight attendants or crews that do an over-the-top job and provide exceptional service. Whether it is making sure that everyone is laughing during their pre-flight announcements or simply going above and beyond the entire flight.
I’m actually typing this post, due to the fact that I have watched our flight attendant named Christine on flight 464 from San Diego to Chicago. She was part of our Chicago based flight crew. Not only was she extremely funny and engaging during pre-flight announcements, but also she handled the crying baby behind me like a super-nanny, interacted with the multiple cocktail ordering guy in front of me like a bar tender from cheers, delivered snacks like they were fancy horderves and she just did everything with extreme excellence. To top it all off she responded to everyone’s “Thank You’s” with a Chick-fil-a “My Pleasure.”
I actually stopped her after watching her interact for the 1st hour and ½ of our 3 and ½ hour flight. I said, “Excuse me, what is your name?” She replied, “Christine” with a smile. I then said, “You really do a superb job!” She responded with, “Thank you so much sir, I really do Luv what I do.”
Such a powerful lesson in her statement — When you luv what you do, you will do a superb job. If you are not doing what you luv, it may be time to do something different. Something you can do with a smile, with excellence and something that everyone will notice that you are doing a superb job. If you are doing what you luv, make sure you act like it.
