10 Things to Remember When You’re Having a Dirty Dog Bad Day

Maybe you’re having one of those days.

You know.

The one where you lost your keys, ran out of gas, juggled screaming kiddos, glances at a pile of bills, and there just aren’t enough hours in a day.

Maybe you feel exhausted-like you’re running on empty. Like expectations pile up but you’re already spread too thin.

Maybe you are tired of arguing, sick of being left out, or weary of holding everyone else together.

Maybe your body isn’t working like it’s supposed to.

You aren’t alone.

When you’re at the end of your rope, wherever that may be, will you remember these powerful truths?

May they fill you with peace, hope, and joy today:

1. God welcomes you with open arms.

But you’ll welcome us with open arms
when we run for cover to you.
Let the party last all night!
Stand guard over our celebration.
You are famous, God, for welcoming God-seekers,
for decking us out in delight. (Psalm 5:11)

2. God is quick to listen.

God’s there, listening for all who pray,
for all who pray and mean it. (Psalm 145:18)

3. He displaces all your worry.

Don’t fret or worry. Instead of worrying, pray. Let petitions and praises shape your worries into prayers, letting God know your concerns. Before you know it, a sense of God’s wholeness, everything coming together for good, will come and settle you down. It’s wonderful what happens when Christ displaces worry at the center of your life. (Philippians 4:6-7)

4. You can find refuge in God.

Because you are my help, I sing in the shadow of your wings. (Psalm 63:7)

5. He fights on your behalf.

Your God is present among you,
a strong Warrior there to save you.
Happy to have you back, he’ll calm you with his love
and delight you with his songs. (Zephaniah 3:17)

6. Tomorrow is a new day.

God’s loyal love couldn’t have run out,
his merciful love couldn’t have dried up.
They’re created new every morning.
How great your faithfulness!
I’m sticking with God (I say it over and over).
He’s all I’ve got left. (Lamentations 3:22-23)

7. You are loved beyond measure.

I’m forever telling everyone how faithful you are.
I’ll never quit telling the story of your love—
how you built the cosmos
and guaranteed everything in it. (Psalm 89:2)

8. His grace is enough.

My grace is enough; it’s all you need.
My strength comes into its own in your weakness. (2 Corinthians 12:9)

9. Choose to #LIVEWONDERSTRUCK anyways.

Therefore once more I will astound these people with wonder upon wonder. (Isaiah 29:14)

10. You can still pursue joy.

The joy of the Lord is your strength. (Nehemiah 8:10)
