It Takes More Than Preaching to Shepherd God’s Flock

A whole other conversation can be had about people taking responsibility for their own lives enough to communicate the spiritual help they need from you, but if you understand human nature, you’ll know that people — for a variety of reasons — can find it difficult to ask for, or verbalize, the help they need. Church leaders who know and are “in tune” with the people in their congregation can better “spot” spiritual problems and proactively step into lives with much needed ministering.

In more than three decades of pastoring and counseling, I have listened to many people who are in great need of biblical counsel who didn’t think of seeking out their church leaders, or who were uncomfortable about doing so. Your people need to know you’re there to serve them with such biblical counsel, and that you welcome such opportunities to minister to them.

Do you know the people you’re leading? Have you and your fellow leaders been in their homes? Do the people in your congregation feel comfortable coming to you for biblical counsel?
