The Kansas City Star reported recently on how Ted Haggard, former object of an illegal drug and gay-sex scandal over four years ago, is now content to lead a small church meeting in a middle-school auditorium in Colorado Springs. Haggard resigned from his post at 14,000-member New Life Church in 2006 over the scandal, but despite the media blitz that resulted, today Haggard and his family are trying to keep a low profile. He takes no salary from St. James, his current position, and is apparently “loving living a peaceful, quiet life.” Haggard says when his church begins some community-oriented programs, he’ll enter more into the public scene, but for now, he says his only aspiration is deepening his faith.
