Pastor Lives on the Street to Relate to Homeless

01/25/11

According to Ohio authorities, there are nearly 4,000 homeless people in and around Dayton, Ohio, and one area pastor is taking their plight very seriously. Pastor Ryan Riddell has dedicated January to sleeping and living in his van on the downtown streets in order to call attention to the homeless problem in Dayton. A story with WEWS5 News said he’s also using modern technology to share his message—he Tweets and updates Facebook and his Web page when he meets someone with a need he thinks his followers can meet. Riddell has also appeared on video blogs and made television appearances to draw attention to the issue and increase his followers. So far Riddell has 1,000 followers on Facebook and has 30,000 hits on his site. Riddell says he did this for his own spiritual renewal and “to become one of them” as Jesus became one of us in order to better help us. “I believe that biblically we have a responsibility to cry out and help these people,” he says.
