150K Petition to Remove "Gay Cure" App

A CNN.com blog post reported that an online petition has garnered more than 150,000 signatures demanding that Apple remove from iTunes an application that is designed to encourage homosexuals to be counseled into recovery. The app, created by Exodus International and released in mid-February, provides a mini-version of the organization’s website, where it “provides support for individuals who want to recover from homosexuality.” Despite Apple’s preliminary rating of the app as containing “no objectional content,” comments from the petition say the app is hateful, bigoted, and promotes stereotypes. As of Tuesday night, Apple finally deemed the app “offensive to large groups of people” and has removed it from the app store. Exodus International has said it created the app in order to broaden its reach.
