Poll: Is Japan Disaster a Sign from God?

A new survey conducted by the Public Religion Research Institute and Religion News Service shows that two-thirds of white evangelicals believe the recent earthquake and tsunami in Japan are evidence of the end times, and nearly 60 percent said they are a sign from God. But a majority of Americans disagree—58 percent of Americans polled said the disaster was a result of global warming, only about 40 percent said God was sending a sign by it, and even fewer (about 30 percent) believe that God punishes whole countries for their sins. Even so, 56 percent of Americans agree that God is in charge of what happens in the world. The vast majority of Americans (more than 80 percent) are in favor of helping Japan financially in the face of the recent disaster.

What do you think? Is the disaster in Japan a sign of the end times?
