Schuller's Position "Changed" at Crystal Cathedral

Amid rumors that Robert Schuller was ousted from the Board of Directors at the Crystal Cathedral, the Orange County church’s website has officially announced his position “changed” to support his retirement goals. Calling Schuller “Chairman of the Board Emeritus,” the announcement read, “Recently, the board of directors of Crystal Cathedral Ministries voted to change Dr. Schuller’s position from that of a voting board member to … a non-voting position. This will free up Dr. Schuller’s time for more speaking engagements and a writing project he has wanted to tackle.” The Crystal Cathedral announcement also said the elder Schuller will continue to speak, preach, and participate in leadership meetings. But according to The Christian Post, son Richard Schuller told the local media that his father was removed from his position because of “differences with other board members.” He told The Los Angeles Times, “I feel bad for him because he’s had to watch his life’s work go down the toilet the last three years…” The younger Schuller was himself removed by the board from his position as senior pastor in 2008. News outlets continue to wonder and comment about these newest events in the Cathedral’s troubled recent history, but those behind this report are praying that all comes to God’s glory within one of the most iconic ministries in the country.
