Most and Least Religious Schools Ranked

The most religious students attend Brigham Young University in Utah, according to a new study by Princeton Review of the most and least religious colleges in the nation. After BYU, the most religious students attend Hillsdale College in Michigan; Thomas Aquinas College in California; Wheaton College in Illinois; and Grove City College in Pennsylvania. The five colleges with “least religious students” were Bennington College in Vermont; Reed College in Oregon; and Bard College, Vassar College and Sarah Lawrence College, all in New York.

Princeton Review interviewed more than 120,000 students at more than 370 colleges and universities to obtain their information. Study author Robert Franek said they wanted to hear directly from the students their views on religiosity in their schools—he called them “the real experts.” Students were asked to rate their fellow students on a five-point scale whether they were religious or not. Franek compiled the study’s results into the religious section of a book titled Best 376 Colleges.
