Saddleback's Sister Church in Indonesia Bombed

A suicide bomber attacked a Protestant church in Indonesia affiliated with Rick Warren’s Saddleback church in Lake Forest, Calif., killing only himself and injuring at least 30 congregants. The attack happened as congregants were leaving services Sunday morning at Bethel Full Gospel Church (called Bethel Injil Church locally) in Java, pelting the faithful with nails and bolts and sending people screaming into the street. Apparently the bomber was inside the church, setting off the bomb as he left the building.

In a televised statement, President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono condemned the bombing as a “terrorist act”; he promised to investigate the group responsible, including their funding and leadership. Rick Warren published a “Purpose Driven Church Alert” on Facebook and Twitter about the bombing, but no other action has been announced by Saddleback yet.
