Rick Warren Addresses "Chrislam" Rumors

Best-selling author and pastor of Saddleback Church in southern California Rick Warren directly answered a Twitter user who brought up rumors that Warren’s faith is actually a mixture of Christianity and Islam. The rumors are fueled partly by Warren’s participation in the Islamic Society of North America’s convention in 2009 and partly by Jack Van Impe, formerly with TBN who has accused Warren and other well-known pastors of what has been dubbed “Chrislam.” Charisma News reprinted a blog post by Warren refuting the rumor and reminding readers, “As a fourth generation Christian pastor, my life and ministry is built on the truth that Jesus is the only way, and our inerrant Bible is our only true authority.” Warren also wrote that “it is nonsense to believe that you must compromise your beliefs, or water down your convictions in order to love someone, or even just treat them with dignity.” He urged readers to “build bridges of friendship and love to those who believe differently so Jesus can walk across that bridge into their hearts.”
