Rick Warren: "I'd Rather Go to Jail Than Violate God's Commands"

LifeSite News featured a recent tweet by Rick Warren, best-selling author and pastor of Saddleback Church in Lake Forest, California, saying he’d rather “go to jail than cave in to a government mandate that violates what God commands us to do.” He was referring to the Obama administration’s new requirement that religious institutions cover all forms of contraception, including abortifacients, as part of their health care plans. Warren’s indictment comes along with several others from prominent evangelical leaders, such as Dr. Richard Land of the SBC’s Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission, who told LifeSiteNews.com he would not comply with the mandate and would “write letters from the Nashville jail just like Dr. King wrote his from the Birmingham jail” if necessary. Protestant, Orthodox and Catholic congregations are joining in their condemnation of the provision of the president’s health care reform bill, saying it violates religious liberty and the First Amendment.
