The Christian Post reported that megachurch pastor T. D. Jakes has launched a discount program for prescription medications that he says will give his church members a 75 percent discount at major pharmacies across the country, including CVS and Rite-Aid. Offering a free discount card in a letter to his congregation at The Potter’s House in Dallas, Jakes said the program could save a family an average of $400.
“The rising cost of health care and prescription drugs has taken its toll on Americans around the nation,” said Jakes in the letter. “Many families are forced to pick between paying bills and buying household necessities, or purchasing their prescription medicines. I no longer want to see our community succumb to illnesses that could’ve been avoided had they been able to afford their preventative medications.”
More than 15 percent of the U.S. does not have health insurance, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
