Salary Report Looks at Very Large Churches

Warren Bird, Leadership Network’s director of research and intellectual capital support, announced this week that the company released its latest church salary report focusing on the salaries of megachurch staff, tittled the 2012 Large Church Salary Report: Research Trends from Leadership Network. Bird says the most important findings of the report include:

  • Senior pastor salaries in megachurches increased two percent per year for the last two years.
  • The budget and attendance of a church is the most influential factor in salary differences for congregations of all sizes.
  • Location of a church only slightly affects differences in salary.
  • Senior pastors in single site churches tend to get paid more than multisite until attendance reaches 6,000.
  • Founding pastors get paid more than successor pastors.
  • The next highest-paid church staff member “typically receives 66 percent of the salary of the senior pastor” in megachurches.
