Church Hosts "Jesus March" in California City

The New Destiny International Christian Center held a “Jesus March” this past weekend in their hometown of El Centro, California in the Imperial Valley. Around 300 men, women and children held signs and marched up and down one of the town’s main streets. Pastor Thomas Alvarez told The Imperial Valley Press that the march was “to promote Christianity, Jesus Christ and his values. The reason we do it is because Christian values have been distorted … We need to stand strong on the word of God; that’s our God.”

Signs read “Abortion is murder,” “Jesus Rocks,” and “Marriage One Man One Woman.” “We’re against abortion and same-sex marriage not because of us personally, but because the Bible says that,” Alvarez said. “We march because we believe in the Bible as the word.”

Assistant pastor Tony Hernandez told The Christian Post said the march was “to go out into our community and to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ … To let them know, remind them that there is hope, that there is such a thing called sin and that people need to realize it. To let people know that there’s hope in Jesus Christ. It’s time that people recognize their condition, their need of Christ in their life.”

The church holds this march every other year.
