Nicolas Cage in Talks to Reboot the "Left Behind" Film Series

Variety announced last Friday that Hollywood superstar and Oscar-winner Nicolas Cage is in negotiations to star in the remake of the popular Left Behind series of Christian films, the originals of which starred Kirk Cameron. The films were first produced in 2001 and were based on the Left Behind series of books by Tim LaHaye and Jerry Jenkins featuring the story of several survivors of the Rapture.

Paul Lalonde of faith-based Cloud Ten Pictures will produce the film and co-write the script. Vic Armstrong, the legendary stunt coordinator on the Indiana Jones, Superman and other iconic action films, is in talks to direct. Producers are expecting a $15 million budget and may begin shooting as soon as the spring with release in late 2013.

The faith-based film market continues to blossom with Sony’s Courageous grossing $34 million in the U.S. and Soul Surfer, which brought in $43 million.
