In an effort to “experience God on a whole new level” in 2013, the congregation at megachurch LifeChurch.tv in Edmond, Okla., has begun a 21-day “Daniel Fast,” eliminating meat, dairy, sugar, and other foods from their diets. The act is intended as worship and consecration to God. The Daniel Fast website says that “someone who chooses to undergo a Daniel Fast demonstrates a physical commitment that reflects a deep spiritual desire for a more intimate relationship with the Lord.”
According to a Christian Post article, foods permitted on the Daniel Fast include “fruit, vegetables, whole grains, beans, legumes, nuts, seeds and oils.” It correlates with the Bible where prophet Daniel’s deep concern for his people compelled him to fast and pray for three weeks, avoiding “choice foods” and “meat and wine.”
Pastor Craig Groeschel has encouraged his congregation to join in the fast for whatever length of time suits them. For more information about the Daniel Fast, click here.
