Woman Buys Groceries for Man Who Stole Her Wallet

A woman in Guthrie, Oklahoma had her wallet stolen while shopping, but instead of turning in the culprit, she saw an opportunity for kindness. Jessica Eaves realized her wallet had been taken by a man a few aisles over from her in a local grocery store, but she didn’t call the authorities. Instead, she approached him directly.

“I said to him, ‘I think you have something of mine. I’m gonna give you a choice. You can either give me my wallet and I’ll forgive you right now, and I’ll even take you to the front and pay for your groceries.” explained Eaves. Otherwise, she said, she would have reported him to the police.

The man returned the woman’s wallet, and Eaves proceeded to the front of the store, where she paid for his $27 worth of groceries. The man was extremely grateful, Eaves said.

“The last thing he said was, ‘I’ll never forget tonight. I’m broke, I have kids, I’m embarrassed and I’m sorry.'” she said. “Some people are critical because I didn’t turn him in, but sometimes all you need is a second chance.”
