5 Simple Steps to Accomplish Your Goals

3. Write down 10 ways to accomplish your #1 goal.

If your goal is to write and publish a book, your 10 items could be things like:

  • Write a proposal.
  • Find a book agent.
  • Find out about self-publishing.
  • Think of an awesome idea.
  • Tell someone about my idea.
  • Ask for support.
  • Find time to write.
  • Etc.

4. Prioritize the 10 ways, and from this create an action item list.

In the scenario I listed above, it wouldn’t be helpful to find a book agent before you have a proposal; and it wouldn’t work to write the proposal before you have an idea.

Prioritize the items on the list so they’re in chronological order and order of importance

5. Write 20 ideas of how to perform your #1 priority. Then repeat for #2 priority.

Twenty ideas might seem like a lot, but try to just get as much on paper as you can without thinking about it too much. For example, if your #1 priority is to find time to write, just allow yourself to brainstorm 20 ways you could do this.

Watch less TV, get up earlier in the morning, start small, use voice notes while I’m in the car, find an accountability partner, etc. …

Do you see how this works?

I know this can get exhausting, but push yourself to put as much on paper as you can. Don’t worry if it makes sense or not. When you are done with this exercise, you will have 200 potential action items for your #1 goal you want to accomplish.

No more sitting at your desk wondering what to do next! You’re already that much closer to achieving your #1 goal in life.
