Atheist TV Channel Coming in July

As reported by USA Today, the president of American Atheists David Silverman announced at a Stanford gathering of non-theists last week that his organization would launch the first TV channel dedicated to atheism this summer. The new channel will run atheist content 24/7 and will be available via Roku for free.

Silverman said the channel will show video of non-theist events, such as the American Atheist conventions and the 2012 Reason Rally in Washington, DC, as well as segments of The Atheist Viewpoint, produced 20 years ago by Madalyn Murray O’Hair. Silverman also said the content will reach 7 million households.

“We are envisioning a lot of different content from many different atheist content creators,” said Dave Muscato, American Atheists’ director of communications. “We are hoping to sign on many other atheists who create videos currently on YouTube and other places.”

This is believed to be the first exclusively non-theistic channel. There are more than 100 Christian and four Jewish television stations broadcasting in the United States.
