LifeWay Stops Selling Mark Driscoll's Books

One of the world’s largest providers of Christian books and resources has pulled 38 products written by or connected with pastor Mark Driscoll of Mars Hill Church in Seattle. This action comes a day after Acts 29 Network removed Driscoll and Mars Hill from membership.

“LifeWay Stores and Lifeway.com are not selling Mark Driscoll’s books while we assess the situation regarding his ministry,” communications director Marty King told CT.

LifeWay had offered 42 products with Driscoll’s name on them earlier this month, but only five of them remain available.

In its letter to Driscoll and Mars Hill, Acts 29 wrote that “we no longer believe the Board of Advisors and Accountability at Mars Hill is able to execute the plan of reconciliation originally laid out. Ample time has been given for repentance, change, and restitution, with none forthcoming.”

Leadership and members of the BoAA have since complained about the actions of Acts 29, calling them “divisive” and “a surprise.” BoAA members Michael Van Skaik and Larry Osborne wrote a letter to the Mars Hill elders, saying they were making “real progress in addressing the serious reconciliation and unhealthy culture issues that have been part of Mars Hill Church for way too long.”

“Be assured of this, the formal charges that were filed were serious, were taken seriously and were not dismissed by the board lightly,” the letter says. “There is clear evidence that the attitudes and behaviors attributed to Mark in the charges are not a part and have not been a part of Mark’s life for some time now.”
