Author, pastor and sought-after conference speaker Francis Chan and his wife Lisa will release a new book on marriage called You and Me Forever: Marriage in Light of Eternity in hopes of casting a new light on relationships that satisfy the deepest parts of the human soul. Chan told The Christian Post, “I believe it’s something God has asked me to write.”
The Chans said in a promotional video that marriage, family, spouses and children can become idols, and couples “can get so wrapped up on things here to where they’re not focused on the kingdom.” They said this book isn’t like other marriage books—full of communication techniques, ways to better your sex life, or ways to better handle money. Instead, couples need to understand that they have it all backwards; the way to have a great marriage is by not focusing on marriage but on eternity.
Mark Beuving at Eternity Bible College writes that the Chan’s new book encourages “thinking deeply about marriage while always subordinating marriage to its proper place in relation to the God who made it and the mission he has given us.”
Another unique aspect of this project is its release strategy: The Chans are self-publishing the book and will partner with Send the Light Distribution for the launch, but any net profits from the sale of the book will go toward providing food, shelter and rehabilitation for orphaned children and exploited women in partnership with global charities. “My whole burden is I’ve got to get it to as many people as possible,” explained Chan. “That’s why we decided to self-publish because I wanted to be able to give it away for free, to everyone who needs it.”
