Megachurches Keep on Growing

While many churches have been experiencing difficulty during our economic recession, most of our megachurches are not just surviving, but are actually thriving. Warren Bird, Research Director for Leadership Network, headed up a study that showed in the past year 81% of “megachurches” (churches averaging over 2,000 in attendance) have grown in attendance, and 67% have increased their budgets. Only 4% of megachurches had to cut salaries this year.

You can get the study at Leadership Network. Check it out, and then come back here to discuss.

Some continue to claim that the megachurch phenomenon is dying, but studies like this show us otherwise. Why/how do you think so many megachurches continue to thrive today in this economic recession?
