Getting Published

Over the last few years I’ve connected with literally hundreds of people who feel like they are called to write. For some, it’s fiction. For others, it’s non-fiction. But all of them have a book in them. The question is: how do you write it and get it published?

It’s such a simple question, but it’s an overwhelming question as well. I think many people never write the book (which is in their control) because they don’t know how or if it will get published (which is out of their control). But if you feel called to write then you need to write as an act of obedience.

I hesitate even making the comparison because nothing can compare to the birth of your children in terms of significance. But getting a book published feels like that. And I’ve rejoiced from the sidelines as a number of friends have published their first books in the last year–Steven Furtick, Greg Darley, Ben Arment.

I’ve been toying with this idea for quite some time, but I’d love to do a “writing conference” of sorts for those who feel called to write. It’d be interesting to get a handful of authors to share their perspectives on writing and publishing. Allow for a little Q & A. Be cool to get someone from the publishing world and agent world too. I’m not making any promises, but I thought it was worth gauging interest.

Any interest?
