I served on the board of the first crisis pregnancy center in the Pacific Northwest back in the 1980s, so the work that Pregnancy Resource Centers across the country (under the umbrella of the national organization, Care Net) are doing to save unborn babies is close to my heart.
I loved this story I read in a recent letter from the Pregnancy Resource Center of Portland. It’s a great example of how as the staff and volunteers of the PRCs minister to women and their unborn children, they are serving Christ and saving lives.
“You are so selfish for even considering having this baby.”
Her husband’s words were still ringing in her ears when Allison entered the Lloyd Center PRC.
She was still hearing that voice as she cried through her ultrasound. She didn’t think she had any choice. Abortion seemed the only answer.
Gayle, the ultrasound technician, spoke with Allison about the realities of fetal development, post-abortion stress and even about how God loved her and her baby. But, Gayle didn’t think her voice was getting through. Allison left still intent on abortion.
Many months later, Allison returned to the center and wanted to talk to Gayle.
“I just had to tell you I had my baby. His name is Joshua. And my husband is absolutely crazy about him. I wanted to thank you for all you said. It was so good to hear I had at least one person cheering for me.”
That’s what PRC’s network of volunteers, staff and supporters do everyday—provide a voice for the voiceless. Often, it is the only encouraging voice these women hear.
