Addict

At the root of every addiction is an idol.

An idol is a false god that we sprint to in order to meet our need for unconditional love, our identity, personal worth, satisfaction, and purpose.

False gods specialize in making promises they can never keep.

Idols will promise you everything you want and then take everything you have.
The addiction monster is never satisfied.  He takes and takes and takes until you and your loved ones are devastated and destroyed, sucked into a black hole of despair (John 10:10).

Idols invite you into a false world of satisfaction, a life-suffocating illusion that will keep you prisoner longer than you want to stay, and will strip you of everything that you have.

Jesus is jealous over us.  Why?

Because the God who made us for worship knows that if we don’t worship Him, our wounded hearts will worship an idol.  And the worship of idols produces worshipers who reflect their idolatrous image.

God the Papa wants us to have a holy addiction to His eternal Son Jesus, who provides all that we need by giving us Himself (2 Peter 1:3-4).
