Ambassador

You could feel the intensity.

It wasn’t electric.

It was more like a solemn feeling of excitement mingled with the fear of the unknown.

I just described for you the locker room before the Indianapolis Colts were to play the Cincinnati Bengals in 1995.  It was the first game of the year.

As Ted Marchibroda, the Head Coach of the Colts, called the team together, he motioned to me.  And he said something to me that changed the way I experienced the game.

He said, “Derwin, you are one of the team captains.”

I was floored by such an honor.

But I didn’t have time to stay in awe for too long.  I was now one of four captains, an ambassador of the Indianapolis Colts.

Hey, did you know that Jesus is calling His team together to play the game of life?  And specifically, He is calling you over to Himself to share some news with you.  He’s saying to you,

“You are My ambassador.”

“My interests are now yours.”

“My passions are now yours.”

“My mission is now yours.”

“You are My ambassador.”

Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making His appeal through us.  We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.  2 Corinthians 5:20 (ESV)
