Can’t We All Just Get Along

Back in the day, Rodney King echoed these famous words,

“Can’t we all just get along?”

How do we get along?  Is it possible?

YES!  BUT WE CAN’T DO IT IN OUR OWN STRENGTH.

Reflect on Philippians 2:1-4, NIV:

Therefore if you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from His love, if any common sharing in the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind.  Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit.  Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.
So how do we get along?

First, we must get along with Christ.  You are united to Jesus!  This means His Life of Love pulsates in you.

Second, the Holy Spirit lives all up in you.  As a result, God’s tenderness and compassion are ready to be released in your relationships.  Remember, the Holy Spirit comes to reveal, magnify, and exalt Jesus through your life.

Third, walk in humility.  See people through Jesus’ eyes; value people above yourself, and place their interest before your own.  This can only happen as you reflect deeply on the price Jesus paid for humanity on the cross.

When you choose to live a life of grace and humility, on occasion you will get taken advantage of.  And it will hurt.  But it is so worth it!

Marinate on that,
