Instant Replay

Back in the 1996 AFC Championship Game, I was a member of the Indianapolis Colts.

We were playing the heavily favored Pittsburgh Steelers.  Cordell Stewart of the Steelers caught a touchdown pass that was not really a touchdown pass.

I’m not bitter.  Ok.  Maybe a little bit. J

He stepped out of bounds in the back of the end zone.

I think we would have won the game, and the Colts would have gone to the Super Bowl, if the NFL had had instant replay back in 1996!

The announcers showed the replay over and over on TV; it was clear on instant replay that Stewart stepped out of bounds!

Instead of the touchdown being cancelled, Pittsburgh took the lead and eventually won the game.

Did you know that the enemy of our souls loves to use instant replay on God’s people?

You know, those “instant replays” of things you and I did in the past that we are ashamed of?

These ugly replays crowd our minds!  And the more we look at the “instant replays,” the more we cover ourselves in shame and guilt.

And shame and guilt suffocate our love for God, ourselves, and others.

So, here’s the deal:  Stop replaying those “instant replays.”  Change the channel!

And look at Jesus’ instant replay instead!

He lived the perfect life you could NOT live!  (Romans 5:19)

He died in your place on the cross, eternally forgiving and forgetting your sins!  (Hebrews 10:14, 17; Ephesians 1:7)

He rose from the dead, dealing a death-blow to sin, death, and Satan!  (Colossians 2:13-15)

Jesus’ station of grace is on 24 hours a day!  Tune in; it’s a great channel of grace.

Marinate on that,

Pastor Derwin
