David Platt: Born Again Christians?

Culturally, does the term “Christian” mean anything anymore? This is a question that plagues many pastors and Christian leaders as they to engage a society that largely believes that differing worldviews are equally valid. Are Christians living such distinct lives that there is a palpable difference between them and a spiritually lost world? David Platt, President of the International Mission Board, offers his provocative analysis in the following video.

Platt believes that we are living in a day where it largely means nothing to be a Christian. Almost 4 out of 5 Americans identify themselves as Christian but don’t immediately react with excitement. Less than half of those self-proclaimed Christians are involved in a church on a weekly basis nor believe that the bible is true. Researchers have even explored the segment of society who proclaims themselves as “born again” Christians. In other words, these are people who profess making a personal commitment to Jesus. The news isn’t better.

The research showed that lifestyles of the “born agains” were indistinguishable from the world around them. They also believe that their works earn them salvation, that Christians and Muslims worship the same God, that Jesus actually sinned while he was on earth, and even admitted that they are marginally connected to Jesus. As Platt read through this research he sadly came to an ominous conclusion. There are many people who believe they are Christian but they are not. Just because a person culturally identifies his or herself, as a Christian does not mean that the person is a Christian biblically.  Do you agree? Watch the whole video and discern for yourself.
